Bears fire coach Matt Eberflus after skid marked by poor decisions late in games

Matt Eberflus has been fired by the Chicago Bears, one day after botching a timeout in a loss to Detroit
4 DAYS AGO • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Limited rushing room Thursday Swift ran for 39 yards on 11 carries and caught two passes for 35 yards on three targets against Detroit on Thursday.
Impact Swift's rushing box score isn't impressive, but he showed well enough in a difficult setting. The Detroit run defense is one of the best in the league, and Swift mostly ran tough. No one will mistake Swift for one of the league's top running backs, but he has not been the cause of any of the problems with the Bears offense. As much as there's no guarantee the Bears are more organized against the 49ers in Week 14, Swift has mostly proven by now that he will produce reasonably well if the circumstances suit it.
5 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Held 50 65 yards from scrimmage Swift rushed the ball 13 times for 30 yards in Sunday's 30-27 overtime loss to the Vikings. He added three receptions on four targets for 35 yards.
Impact Swift gained only 20 yards on 10 carries in the first half and was largely scripted out of the contest in the final two quarters as the Bears played from behind. He did manage his highest yardage total as a receiver since Week 5 to avoid a completely disastrous performance. While Swift has been effective for large portions of the season, he may not bounce back in Week 13 against a tough Lions run defense.
NOVEMBER 25 • ROTOWIRE
Suiting up Sunday Swift (groin) is listed as active Sunday against the Vikings.
Impact After logging a DNP on Wednesday due to a groin injury, Swift followed it up with a limited session Thursday and full participation Friday before the Bears deemed him questionable for Week 12 action. With his status now confirmed for Sunday's contest, he likely will pace Chicago's backfield, but the team could deploy a timeshare considering Swift handled 54 percent of snaps while fellow RB Roschon Johnson earned 44 percent during last Sunday's loss to the Packers. Nevertheless, Swift has averaged 19.2 touches per game over the last nine outings after taking a season-low 10 back in Week 1.
NOVEMBER 24 • ROTOWIRE
Team confident in playing status Swift (groin), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings, is trending towards playing, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact This makes sense given Swift was able to practice fully Friday, and evidently the running back didn't suffer any significant setbacks. The four-year back split plenty of carries with Roschon Johnson in the Week 11 loss to the Packers, but that likely could have been due more to game script than anything else. Expect official confirmation on Swift's game-time status to occur before the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
NOVEMBER 24 • ROTOWIRE
Listed as questionable Swift (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings after upgrading to full practice participation Friday.
Impact Swift is more likely than not to play, having upgraded from non-participation Wednesday to a limited practice Thursday to a full session Friday. If there's a late setback and he ends up inactive ahead of the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, Roschon Johnson will take over as Chicago's lead back.
NOVEMBER 22 • ROTOWIRE
Gets back to limited Thursday Swift (hamstring) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday.
Impact The Bears held Swift out of drills Wednesday due to a groin injury with the aim to evaluate him further one day later. With a capped session under his belt Thursday, he may be on a path to upholding coach Matt Eberflus' hope that the running back will be available Week 12, per Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Friday's practice report ultimately will reveal whether or not Swift goes into the weekend with a designation for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

QB Caleb Williams, Bears look to build on positives after tough loss

Quarterback Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears will try to build on the positives from a tough loss to Green Bay
NOVEMBER 21 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Nursing groin injury Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said Swift won't practice Wednesday due to a groin injury, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Impact Per Finley, Eberflus added that he's "hopeful" Swift will play Sunday against the Vikings, but the Bears won't have a better idea on the running back's status until he's evaluated Thursday following a day of rest. Swift hasn't appeared on Chicago's injury report all season, but the groin issue may explain why he was limited to a 57 percent offensive snap share -- his lowest rate since Week 3 -- in the Bears' 20-19 loss to the Packers this past Sunday. Swift still produced for fantasy managers despite the lighter-than-usual workload, carrying 14 times for 71 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches for 13 yards on two targets.
NOVEMBER 20 • ROTOWIRE
Garners 84 total yards in loss Swift rushed 14 times for 71 yards and a touchdown and brought in both targets for 13 yards in the Bears' 20-19 loss to the Packers on Sunday.
Impact Swift recorded his fifth rushing touchdown of the season on a game-long 39-yard run late in the third quarter, which also helped him to his highest rushing yardage total in the last three games. The veteran back and first-year Bear does continue ceding red-zone work to Roschon Johnson, which naturally isn't ideal for fantasy purposes, but Swift's big-play ability and clear lead-back role gives him plenty of appeal heading into a Week 12 home divisional showdown against the Vikings.
NOVEMBER 17 • ROTOWIRE
Tough sledding in Week 10 Swift carried the ball 16 times for 59 yards and caught his only target for six yards in Sunday's 19-3 loss to the Patriots.
Impact The Bears came into the game missing both starting tackles on the offensive line and then saw left guard Teven Jenkins go down to an ankle injury in the first half, and the offense simply couldn't get anything going without consistent blocking. Rookie QB Caleb Williams took the worst of it, getting sacked nine times, but Swift also failed to average 4.0 yards a carry or get into the end zone for the third straight game. Unless the offensive line gets healthier, it will be tough to rely on any part of the Chicago offense heading into a Week 11 rivalry game against Green Bay.
NOVEMBER 10 • ROTOWIRE
Totals 82 yards in loss Swift rushed the ball 16 times for 51 yards in Sunday's 29-9 loss to the Cardinals. He added six receptions on six targets for 31 yards.
Impact Swift was bottled up as a runner throughout the game, as his longest gain went for just 13 yards and his 3.2 yards per carry were his lowest mark since Week 3. He did supplement that with six receptions to lead the team, though he worked exclusively in short areas of the field and had no explosive gains. Ultimately, Swift managed a fine performance based on volume, particularly given that the entire Chicago offense performed poorly.

NFL Week 8 odds: 'Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda' parlay; five bets that would've won big
Excellent performance in loss Swift rushed the ball 18 times for 129 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 18-15 loss to the Commanders.
Impact Chicago's offense was sluggish coming out of its bye, and Swift was no exception as he managed only 10 carries for 31 yards at halftime. He got things rolling in the final two quarters, however, highlighted by a 56-yard touchdown late in the third quarter as well as a 22-yard scamper early in the fourth quarter. With the performance, Swift topped 100 yards on the ground for the first time this season and now has taken a trip to the end zone in four straight contests.

Another productive effort in win Swift rushed 17 times for 91 yards and a touchdown and brought in all four targets for 28 yards in the Bears' 35-16 win over the Jaguars on Sunday in London. He also committed a fu...
Impact Swift continued to put the poor start to his Bears tenure firmly behind him Sunday with his second-highest rushing yardage total of the season. Swift also recorded a rushing touchdown for the third straight game when he went into the end zone from one yard out early in the fourth quarter. The veteran back extended his streak of games with multiple catches to five as well, sending him into a Week 7 bye with plenty of momentum. Swift will next take aim at a suspect Commanders defense on the road in a Week 8 matchup in Sunday, Oct. 27.

Has 285 yards in last two games Swift rushed 21 times for 73 yards and a touchdown while catching both of his targets for 47 yards in Sunday's 36-10 win over the Panthers.
Impact Swift had a one-yard touchdown run nullified by an illegal shift penalty in the second quarter and watched Roschon Johnson score from one yard out two plays later. Swift had another near-miss later in the first half when he was brought down on the 2-yard line at the end of a 42-yard catch, but this time he finished the drive off himself with a one-yard touchdown run two plays later. After posting 42 or fewer scrimmage yards in each of his first three games with the Bears, Swift has heated up with 285 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns over the last two games heading into a Week 6 matchup against the generous Jaguars defense in London.
